OSCAR VIDAL

Musician born in Aielo de Malferit (València) where he began his musical studies within the "Unión Musical Ayelense" by Mr. Antonio Garcia Albert, finishing his studies at the "Joaquín Rodrigo" Superior Conservatory of Music in Valencia, where he unanimously obtained the honorable mention of the 1996 final degree award in the specialty of Trumpet, with professors Vicente Campos and Leopoldo Vidal. He took instrumental improvement courses with Anthony Plog, Maurice Benterfa, Pierre Thibaud, Allen Vizzutti, and Hakan Handenberger.
He also studied piano, harmony, and conducting with Manuel Galduf and Roberto Forés. He took band conducting courses with Jan Cober, José Rafael Pascual, Franco Cesarini and Ferrer Ferran, and orchestra conducting with Denis Ham (Royal Academy of Music). He receives composition classes from Teo Aparicio and Arnau Bataller.

As an instrumentalist, he has been part of the "Orquestra simfònica d'Alacant" as well as its brass quintet and has collaborated with other groups such as: Gijón Conservatory Orchestra, l'Empordà Orchestra and was selected in 1996 to be part of of the “Orchestre d'Harmonie des Jeunes de l'Union Européenne”.

He has been principal conductor of different band formations and has conducted many other symphonic bands throughout Spain as a guest conductor. He has directed the Municipal Band of Barcelona within the Barcelona LEM festival, premiering works by contemporary composers such as Agustí Martínez, Jane Rigler, Llorenç Barber, Xavier Maristany or Miguel Marín among others. He has premiered works by contemporary composers at the "Círculo de Bellas Artes" within the experimental music festival "Escena Contemporánea", at the ENSEMS in Valencia and at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid.
His works have been performed by different Spanish bands, receiving commissions such as the work "Locus Solus" for the Barcelona Municipal Band or "I do not understand this music" dedicated to the Spanish trumpeter José Cháfer.

– 2nd prize in the IV National Contest for the Composition of Processional Marches “Villa de San Pedro del Pinatar”, Murcia
– 3rd prize in the XVII international pasodobles contest “Villa de Pozo estrecho” in Cartagena (Murcia) – Second prize from the public of the “IV Villa de Altea composition contest” (Alicante)
