NORMAN MILANES MORENO
He was born in Jiguaní, Cuba where he studied primary music with his father Miguel Milanés. He graduated in piano, solfeggio and theory from the Oriente Provincial Conservatory. He also studies harmony and composition with Professor Enrique Bellver, conducting with Manuel Duchesne Cuzán and Daniil Tiuilin. He was assistant director of the teachers Gonzalo Mantici and Rodrigo Prats.
He is the founder of the "Small Symphony Orchestra of Havana" and of the "Ernesto Lecuona" Lyric Group. He has been director of the National Concert Band. He has directed in countries like Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Algeria, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Russia and Spain. He has also performed concerts with the Bogotá and Medellín Symphony Orchestra, in Colombia. In Cuba he has directed the Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, Matanzas, Santa Clara, Camaguey and Oriente. He has organized courses in Orchestral and Band Conducting, as well as Harmony and Composition. Professor at the National School of Art, Principal Director of the Lyrical Comedy "Gonzalo Roig" of the Gran Teatro de La Habana and of the Symphony Orchestra of Cuban Radio and Television. Outstanding connoisseur of Cuban stage music, he directed the “Cuban Company of Operettas”.
He has been a teacher at the Escola Comarcal de la Vall d'Albaida and professes his teaching at the Ad Libitum school in Onteniente, Valencia, Spain. He is the founder of the Music Bands of the Cuban Navy and the Band of the General Staff, having directed other bands in the country, including the Provincial of Pinar del Río.
