The “Marimba Concerto” was commissioned by the marimbist and conductor from Alicante, Jordi Francés Sanjuan. It was originally composed for orchestra between May 2005 and January 2006. The premiere took place at the Martín Codax Auditorium of the Superior Conservatory of Vigo (Galicia-Spain) on May 24, 2006 by the soloist Jordi Francés and his orchestra. center, under the direction of Javier Viceiro. In this edition we present the version for symphonic band prepared by the author Ramón García i Soler himself. The work is dedicated to the memory of Elena Martínez Navarro, a young woman known to the author, who died from a serious illness days after having her son. The work responds to the traditional structure of the concert. It is composed of three movements (Allegro-Adagio-Allegro); the first of a jovial air in sonata form, the second of a meditative nature, articulated as a varied theme and the third of a transcendent nature in the form of a scherzo.
